Happy Things to End the Week With

The two most important things in my life have been on my mind all week.  Family and friends!

My brother Aneez, his wife Vanessa and their delectable child Isaac are coming for a quick visit and a wedding on Monday.

Aneez, Vanessa and Isaac! Three more sleeps until we get to see you!

Isaac - This pic was taken just this week.

Showing us his head and hair.

And he also knows where his teeth, tongue and mouth are.

Yup, he knows he's got ears too.

And there is his cute nose!

I am also very excited to see Mein Deutschen Freunde again TOMORROW!

Hello weekend!

Meditation for your Monday

How easy would it be for you to find someone to say this about?  I can think of 20 people off the top of my head right now and I know that list could go on and on.   Who might look at this and think of you?
Why can't that person be YOU?

Self love is so important in our capacity to be able to give, share and value each other.   Here's to a week of knowing that we are worthy of love so that we can fully give of ourselves and love one another.

Happy Things to End the Week With

I've been wanting to do one of these (inspired by Micaela over at Dolce Vita) for a very long time! The very simplest of things made me smile this week.

1. Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams reunited on The Young and the Restless!
Soap opera fans may remember them as SUPER COUPLE Angie and Jesse on All My Children.  I love the chemistry between these two.  This week in Genoa City on my favourite soap (see above) Morgan's character Harmony went to an AA meeting.  After some podium time at the meeting, she sat down beside Williams' character Sarge. They made eye contact.  Yes. That was it.  But I felt the HEAT. Who's with me?

2. Discovering tofu shirataki noodles
I discovered Shirataki noodles this week and had them three days in row!  I tried the fettucine, spaghetti and then the angel hair.  Spaghetti was my favourite of the bunch.  I haven't mastered the draining of the noodles quite yet but they were so filling and not so different from other pastas that I've tried.  They definitely are not as dense and have a spongier chew to them.  At 20 calories per serving, they are vegan, gluten, cholesterol AND sugar free.  Score!

3. Rediscovering Aquafit
Melanie and I went back to Aquafit class at the YMCA after a few weeks away and had a great workout!  Barbells under water?  Ouch!  Charles taught this week and I felt the burn.  I like my Aquafit instructor to also be a great deejay so I'm excited for Liam to be back next week.  His class is amazing and the music is so fun!   I'm pretty sure I'm gonna rock the senior citizen water aerobic circuit when I'm older.
And no, a string bikini wouldn't cut it during Aquafit.

Happy New Year everyone!  March 21st was Navroz.  The gorgeous weather we had this year really made it feel like a day of possibility!

5. Live Music!
Makeda accompanied me to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra's A Century of Broadway show this week.  We had front row seats and had such a great time listening to great songs from musicals like West Side Story, Chicago and The Phantom of the Opera. I also discovered the amazing voice of Doug LaBrecque.  He is one of the most diverse singers, I've heard in a while.  Wow! I'm so fortunate to live in a city with so much music and art and LIFE just outside my door.

6. Book Club
Met with my favourite ladies tonight for book club.  We talked about Four Seasons in Rome by Anthony Doer as we ate a most delicious Italian meal care of our host Marta.
Marta's bruschetta!  A fresh and tasty appetizer before her amazing spaghetti with tomato and meatball sauce.

We topped the night off with a Boci birthday cake for Maxine and then got to see these cuties for a quick minute.  From left to right; Mama Marta, Baby Charlotte, Papa John and Baby James.  What an adorable family.

Thankful for a gorgeous week!

Meditation for your Monday

I saw this on Kind Over Matter last week and loved it!

This week, I am thinking of the rain and thunder in my own life.

Happy 6th Birthday Kahzmir!

Happy Birthday Kahzmir! Today you are 6 years old and watching The Lorax at the theatre for the second time! I remember taking you to the movies this summer.  The theatre was so big and so dark.  The volume was too loud and you got scared.  Look at you now sitting through a whole movie without getting scared.  Now you are big enough to understand what it means to be responsible.  I will never forget coming out of the bathroom with you standing out of the door saying, "Fui, did you go number 2?" I replied "No" and you crossed your arms and very sternly said, "Why did you flush?  If it's yellow, let it mellow!  If it's brown flush it down!  Don't waste flushes!"  Happy Birthday my little Earth Ranger!  I crazy love you!

I hope you enjoyed your Lorax themed cake!  It was delicious!

Thankfully you are still small enough for me to pick you up for hugs.

And you still think it's funny when I pretend to put ketchup on you and try to eat you up.

Happy Birthday!  I love you!

Ode to a Friend

Will never forget this moment...

Hanging out at Massey Hall with Shafik moments before Jann Arden played Ode to a Friend.
Live performance here.  Thanks gracewong1138
Lyrics below.

by Jann Arden

I don't mind if you stay longer
You have not been any trouble
I don't want you to go home yet
can you stay just stay ten more minutes

You are my best friend
I don't know how I'd live
How I love you
every square inch
Love your brown eyes
your forgiveness

Don't go home now
It's past midnight
You can sleep here
we'll have breakfast

You are my greatest gift
I don't know how I'd live
You are my saving grace
You are by heart my true friend

Worst Wingman Ever

This past weekend while on a whirlwind trip to New York, my best friend declared himself the Worst Wingman Ever!  He said this out loud while shaking his head after an innocent flirtation between me and a most gorgeous barista at a cafe in Noho.  He was of no help at all, interested only in his cafe au lait.

My apparent wingman sipping his cafe au lait.

Besties in a Manhattan subway stop in Chinatown.

My bestie would be relieved to hear that today the title belongs to me.  Yes friends, today I am the WORST.WINGMAN.EVER.

Here's the scoop:
The beautiful Claire at Bicoastally has documented her admiration of Taylor Kitsch many a time.
- She discusses her wish to bed him here.
- She subjected innocent adorable children to wearing clothing in celebration of Tim Riggins, a character portrayed by Kitsch in Friday Night Lights here.
- She salutes his man bun here.

Birthday girl Marianne is obsessed with David Beckham.
- She celebrates him on Man Candy Monday here.
- She loves him in his role of father and champion (despite his elastic headband look) here.

Today in Toronto, Taylor Kitsch is a mere few blocks from my house promoting his film John Carter.
Taylor with my girl crush Dina on Breakfast Television this morning.

And David Beckham is across the street at the Air Canada Centre RIGHT NOW getting ready for the CONCACAF Champion League quarterfinal against the Toronto.
Becks steps away from my house at the Air Canada Centre.

And me?  Where am I? I just gave my soccer tickets away and am taking over the title of Worst Wingman EVER whilst wrapped in a blanket, with orange juice, dirty tissues and cold medication trying to sleep off a head cold.  I was thinking of giving my bestie this card but I may just send it to myself.
